One of my favourite photos is going to be included in the next edition of Inscribe, out in November. Its a fabulous magazine featuring writing from the inner-north of Melbourne, specifically writers working and living in and around Darebin. Make sure you check out the local cafes and libraries to get a copy of the next issue. My photo (below) has the imaginative title ‘Rusty’.

The three winners of the Fringe Festival Windows | Frames exhibition in Sydney Rd have been announced and they are: Aviva Hannah with “Dancing On Glass” at BLISS (529 Sydney Rd), Michael Carolan’s “Invitation to Treat- The Collectable Art History Series” inside Celinesat 581 Sydney Rd and Justin Davis’s “Lanuola” at Gallery & Tattoo, 696 Sydney Rd.
Thrillingly, the work I entered (below) has receieved a special mention. Other special mentions also went to Devika Bilmoria, That’s Bogus Body Art, Julian Di Martino, Pam Kleeman, Chiara 3, Vicki Mullins and Gemma Jackson. My work is at 662 Sydney Rd, in the window of Kidz Biz. The exhibition is running until Sunday October 10th so there is still plenty of time to have a look yourself and check out all the great work. All the works this year are being exhibited in shops between Albert and Albion Sts.

There will be no more blogging until I have cleaned up the studio.
You have no idea just how long it could be. ;-(

I was wondering yesterday just why I’ve blogged so infrequently about 30 days of biking. I think the problem is that most of our cycling just isn’t all that exciting. It’s generally very pleasant but not worth reporting on frequently.
Its the everyday stuff we do all the time, ride to school, ride home, ride to swimming, ride to the shops, ride to friend’s houses… you get the picture. Our weekends have been too busy for any special “purely for fun” rides so there’s no pretty pics, no special observations, no great discoveries. I have promised to review Bicycling Australia’s Where to Ride so am hoping to review a couple of the rides in there with The Flipster. Maybe that will give us something to post about!
The other thing I noticed about 30 days of biking is that it is still permeated with the idea that cycling is an activity, or means of transport, requiring special ingenuity, not to mention, equipment, planning, resourcfullness etc. Look at this “helpful” list of Rain Riding Tips. Its enough to put any one off!
BTW, this is my first post using my new Wacom tablet! mooi!

The Fringe festival is underway and one of the more local events is the annual Sydney Rd Window | Frames. From Thursday the 23rd September until the 10th of October shop windows between Albert St and Albion Rd will feature the work of local artists including various artworks, including sculptures, painting, photos and prints.
I have one artefact in the window at Kiddy Kidz, 662 Sydney Rd Brunswick. Artefacts are unique pieces as fine quality photographic prints are mounted on found objects. No two will ever be the same. The photographs are taken using vintage cameras and the lenses are as worn as the objects they have been mounted on!

We are very lucky at the Flipster’s school where we are blessed with absolutely hordes of amazing teachers. Amy Chamberlain, or prep-Amy as she is known to us, is one of these over-achievers.
Prep-Amy has written a children’s book and not satisfied with that has then gone and published it herself as Able Miss Baker. Illustrated by Brendan Coghlan, “the Most Amazing Book Ever” will be launched on Wednesday evening at Cardboard City inside thousand pound bend from 6.00pm.
On the Thursday is a day full of kids activities for all ages from 10.00 until 5.00pm. Fabulous school holiday entertainment. And it’s free!

If I had time I’d tell you about all the cycling we’ve been doing (30daysofbiking) and various other things. But I don’t.
So all I’ll mention is that there are two new cards in the shop today. Truckin’ and Dodger.

And just one last thing, because it is an important issue. While I did have my heart set on a sparkly green helmet I now am thinking of something a bit more summery. Yellow maybe?

Its Day 3 of 30 days of biking. At least it’s not raining.
As usual we headed off to school on our bikes. Friday is a very relaxed day, nothing after school that we need to race off to, so The Flipster rode his dragster. With 12″ wheels its not the most practical bike for getting around but it is possibly one of the best looking. Its tricky for him to wear his school backpack because of the sissy bar so these are the only mornings I agree to carry his bag for him. I suspect that’s another reason he likes riding it.
After dropping the kids at school I had extended coffee at the brunswick east project with lots of crafty mums before picking up my groceries from the co-op. Forgot to take this shot while I was actually riding so you’ll have to settle for “arriving home”.
